Meet Katniss: Star of The New Hunger Games Movie

Meet Katniss: Star of The New Hunger Games Movie

Fans of the popular Hunger Games book series have been highly anticipating the very first movie of the same name. It’s not that these book fans are necessarily of the wild fanatic sort, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who has read the first book and didn’t immediately go on to read the final two.

Many critics have purported that the Hunger Games books filled a void for Harry Potter fans who had no more adventures from Hogwarts to read about. While the type of enjoyment one got reading Potter could be comparable to Hunger Games, that’s a pretty high bar to set for the new Hunger Games movie. Fans can only hope the Games movies will be of or near the quality of Harry Potter.

The success of this Hunger Games movie may all come down to one particular element, Katniss. Rather, the actress to play Katniss. Many actresses were considered for the role including Abigail Bresnan, the young star of Little Miss Sunshine. Despite a promising list of young actresses, the role was eventually given to Jennifer Lawrence.

Book fans could easily flaws right from the start with this casting. Let’s start with the simple fact that Jennifer is blond, and Katniss is definitely not a blond. Yes, hair can be dyed, but can a simple dye job help the fans forget?

Jennifer, a 21 year-old, will be acting as the 16 year-old Katniss. Again, this may be a tough challenge for fans. Katniss is an underfed, scrappy young girl. Not yet a blossoming young lady. This is where an Abigail Bresnan may have had an advantage. Will Jennifer be able to pull that off the youth of a child?

Her acting chops should not be in question. The young actress has been in such blockbuster films as “X-Men: First Class” to films with high critic acclaim like “Winter’s Bone”. You may even recognize her from some of her TV work, appearing in a few epidodes of Monk, Medium and also on a Cold Case.

The Hunger Games movie is set to premiere March of 2012. Not only are fans anxiously awaiting to see the film, no doubt they’re also waiting to find out if it will be good enough to be considered a blockbuster success. After all, there are still two more books in the series. So in the fans’ minds, there are still two more movies to be made.
